An online encyclopedia which features articles covering a variety of subjects on a range of different topics including places, people, sights and objects. Wikipedia was founded as an off-shot of Nupedia which was a free encyclopedia created by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger who introduced the idea of letting the public contribute to the articles as a way of speeding up the writing process. Wikipedia was launched in January 2001 and visitors to the website can find interesting articles on a whole host of different subjects and can also contribute their knowledge and submit information to the website too.
